Use Your Gifts

As we near the end of 2020, many of us have taken the time to figure out who we are and what our purpose is. We can talk about purpose at another time, but many have decided to more strongly align their life with their purpose.

Discovering your purpose makes you take a hard look at what your gifts are and once you have identified them, I believe it is difficult to go back to acting like you don't know what they are.

So what do you do next? How do you use them? It's important to do these 4 things, at the very least :

  • Honor God. A believer will acknowledge that He gave the gifts to us for a reason.

  • Help people. Your gifts are to be shared with others, the folks you know and the folks who are strangers now. Use what you know to "further" someone else.

  • Honor your ancestors. Those of us in the African American community are keenly aware of what our ancestors were unable to accomplish because of systemic racism. To have the access and ability now and not take advantage of it is unacceptable.

  • Benefit you and yours. Your gift, and the acknowledgement of it, can lead you to places of authority. If that allows you to bless your family and others monetarily, that is a wonderful outcome. Use it to continue to give.

Your gift is uniquely yours. Treat it as the special endowment it is!
